Syllabus
Nota bene: I am starting (6-22-2007) to make changes to the Syllabus. All changes will be in place by the beginning of the semester. The dates (but not the Assignments) are current for Fall 2007. The required books are also current. Some of the online essays may also change over the course of the summer, so Fall students should wait until the semester begins before reading any of them.

Required Reading
All pages within the Syllabus and all pages within the Study Guide are required reading. All of the online essays and other links within the five study Sections are required. Everything under Supplemental Resources, however, is optional.
Books
Hans Eberhard Mayer. The Crusades. Second edition, Oxford University Press, 1997
Thomas Madden, ed. The Crusades: The Essential Readings. Blackwells, 2002.
Note: there are substantial required readings that are online. Taken together, they probably equal about another book and a half.
